Senior Principal Data Engineer, Platforms and Engineering


We are looking for a seasoned data engineering leader with a growth mindset to join our data org in Business Technology (BT) to own and guide the development of large-scale, best-in-class data products and foundations. In this role you will be a senior level individual contributor, building and maintaining the data infrastructure to enable the effective implementation of Okta’s data strategy and the delivery of transformative solutions that nurture data-driven organizations.

You will work across multiple business departments and be responsible for architecting effective solutions to acquire and connect data from end-to-end while maintaining the highest level of data integrity, security, and ensuring our customers’ privacy.


  • Engage with stakeholders and business teams to understand priorities and identify opportunities to advance analytics and insights solutions, with in-built security and privacy controls.
  • Work with BT Architects to design/build data architectural patterns, ETL frameworks and data governance practices for cross-functional initiatives.
  • Work with upstream data producers, product managers, business stakeholders and product data engineering teams to build foundational data models.
  • Partner on the vision for BI tools to build self-service reporting infrastructure
  • Build and maintain infrastructure to improve quality and reliability of data pipelines and products.
  • Improve operational excellence by optimizing existing processes and tools to improve engineering productivity and reliability of data pipelines.
  • Establish best practices to improve data architecture, development processes and data reliability.


  • 12+ years’ experience in data science, machine learning, analytics operations at scale, information technology, partner operations, finance, business planning
  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related analytical field
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a proven ability to operate in a growing, dynamic environment.
  • Hands-on approach to closing gaps in data foundations and technical execution, reinforcing development standards and best practices that guarantee high quality, trustworthy data.
  • Deep understanding of data related security and governance/controls.
  • Experience with Snowflake/Redshift, AWS/GCP, Hadoop/Spark, Kafka/Flink, ETL Solutions, and Data Governance/Management Solutions
  • Demonstrated project management, leadership, and cross-group collaboration skills.
  • Ability to create effective relationships, listen, influence, and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work through ambiguous situations and proactively determine creative solutions.

((Colorado, New York and Washington only*) Minimum base of $195,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits))
