As we continue to expand our global reach, we are seeking a visionary Director of Engineering to lead our Enterprise Engineering function within the Business Technology organization. This pivotal role will steer the development and execution of technology solutions on enterprise platforms, emphasizing engineering excellence and agility.

Role Overview:

As the Director of Engineering for our Enterprise Engineering team in India, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing our Enterprise Engineering strategy. Your leadership will directly impact internal operations and drive Okta’s business growth by overseeing the development, release, and maintenance of enterprise applications that underpin our success. You will need to foster strong partnerships across teams, manage engineering talent, and drive projects to completion within an agile framework, all while maintaining high standards of performance and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and implement global operating principles for the Enterprise Engineering team, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Collaboration & Planning: Partner with Product Owners and Project Managers on roadmap, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timely delivery.
  • Engineering Excellence: Oversee engineering design evaluations and manage the end-to-end execution of projects, balancing resource allocation, budget constraints, and scheduling.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, business partners, and vendors to drive collaborative success.
  • Talent Development: Mentor and coach a diverse team of managers and senior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous growth, openness, and psychological safety.
  • Recruitment & Expansion: Lead recruitment efforts to grow the team in line with strategic expansion plans, ensuring a strong alignment with our organizational needs.
  • Project Leadership: Act as Delivery Lead on large-scale projects, ensuring comprehensive end-to-end execution and successful delivery.
  • Risk & Prioritization Management: Manage objectives, priorities, trade-offs, and risk, making data-driven decisions to guide the team effectively.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated success as a Director or Senior Engineering Manager with a track record of building inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing teams.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep background in software engineering, including experience with IT Application development and large-scale system design and management.
  • Platform Knowledge: Experience with SaaS/PaaS platforms such as Salesforce, Workday, Netsuite, Anaplan, Xactly, and Boomi.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of business value streams and processes, including campaign to opportunity, opportunity to order, order to cash, and other critical business functions.
  • Agile Mastery: Skilled in Agile methodologies, continuous integration, and integration and API concepts, with a strong grasp of relevant technologies and patterns.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication abilities, comfortable working in a globally distributed environment, and adept at navigating ambiguity with autonomy.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with over 15 years of technical leadership experience and 10 years of experience in software development.
