Senior Manager, Workflows Engineering

Okta is seeking an engineering manager to lead the team that is fundamentally expanding the possibilities of functional visual programming. The team builds the IDE where our customers build and run visual flow programs that integrate and orchestrate various SaaS products together. Okta Workflows allows a customer to very quickly and with no-code build complex, secure and scalable processes that enable identity centric scenarios across many SaaS applications. Okta Workflows is the foundation for secure integration between cloud services.

This role is responsible for front-line management, team growth and supporting the team in all Okta processes needed to run an efficient organization. As a rapidly growing team in a fast growth company, this role will be responsible for working with management to realize the vision, help inform strategy and communicate across the organization to set and track dependencies and help other engineering teams embed or build on Okta Workflows. To be successful you would need to bring innovation to everyday problems, lead the team to beat our objectives, engage in future-scale thinking, constantly improve our processes to increase our efficiency and continuously invest in our people to ensure their personal and professional growth.

We are looking for a tenacious hands-on manager who is ready to roll up their sleeves and dig into the code if needed and help our front-end teams deliver the future of visual development in Identity centric workflows. Hundreds of organizations around the world depend on running their mission critical identity processes on Okta and this role requires the manager to be always on and quarter-back live site incidents.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers
  • Mentor and grow the team to develop and excel in their area of expertise
  • Regularly assesses, addresses and expose risks associated with deliverables 
  • Drive cross-functional and cross-departmental product architecture review and discussions 
  • Establish strong relationships across the organization with engineering leadership and field teams 
  • Establish metrics and processes for regular assessment and drive improvements
  • Set clear expectations and foster a positive environment that rewards hard work
  • Recruit and mentor software engineers to become engineering leaders
  • Handle customer escalations indirectly (through Support) or directly when deemed necessary 
  • Work collaboratively with Product Management, QA, Documentation, Operations and Support

Minimum REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • 8+ years of hands-on management of full stack engineering teams with experience building IDE’s (Integrated Development Environment)
  • Managed a team of 10+ engineers at a software company in a Live Site environment
  • Experience working with modern UI/JS frameworks (e.g., React, VueJS, NodeJS)
  • Demonstrable experience in API development and API-first approach
  • Solid grasp of modern software engineering principles and practices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with teams, peers and management 
  • Experience building programming languages and compilers is highly desired

Education and Training: 

Bachelor's degree in a technical field
