Position Description:

Okta is seeking a highly technical and experienced leader to join the Devices Platform back-end team within the broader Devices Engineering group. Devices Engineering group is responsible for building client software that runs on MacOS, Windows, iOS and Android as well as the cloud software to support these clients. Okta device software provides end users seamless yet secure access to their services by inspecting and leveraging the security posture of devices.

This position is within the Devices platform back-end team responsible for building the back-end APIs for setting security policies, probing device postures, building integration management tools and bindings, Administration UI and various other components that provide the back-end support for the Client Authenticator Applications across all the four platforms.

This is a high visibility and impact position within Okta.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of highly-skilled back-end engineers to help drive the long-term strategy, vision and execution for our Devices Backend Platform
  • Partner with Product Management, cross-functional stakeholders, Architects and Senior Engineers to lead and drive analysis, refinement and translation of product and market requirements into design that aligns with the mid and long-term goals
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the team in an agile environment
  • Guide decisions on architecture, system design, and technical strategy
  • Communicate product vision to executive management and external entities
  • Partner with QA, Technical Support, Documentation and UX teams
  • Partner with recruiting to hire the best talent in the industry
  • Empower the team to deliver their best by removing impediments; coach and mentor them to help them grow to the next level in their careers

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in development and leadership roles in software engineering
  • Experience building enterprise software or SaaS products at massive scale preferably in Java or in any other object-oriented programming language and RESTful APIs
  • Deep understanding of engineering and continuous integration principles and best practices relating to development, automation, and release
  • Experience managing and leading Agile software development teams leveraging continuous integration and deployment practices with a keen focus on quality and efficiency
  • Understanding of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies (FIDO, U2F, WebAuth, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation, etc.)

 

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge and understanding of multiple mobile and desktop platforms: Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows
  • Experience with delivering high-quality applications on multiple mobile and desktop platforms at massive scale and on time
  • Understanding of credential providers and security models
  • Familiarity with authentication protocols in one or more of: MacOS, Android, Windows, iOS
  • Experience working on low latency, highly scalable and mission critical environments
  • Experience with one or more of: Spring, REST, Maven, AWS, Redis, MySQL, Tomcat

 

Education and Training:

  • B.S. Computer Science or related field (MS/PhD preferred)
