Job Description

We are looking for an energetic Engineering leader who can help guide and manage a high impact, high leverage and high visibility team that is on a journey to make Okta’s codebase more modular, componentized, fuel our adoption of microservices and improve developer productivity. This team fearlessly defines the roadmap to cleave and better organize our codebase, which is millions of lines of code (and counting). They also define and facilitate the development of the next set of micro and macro services.

With sponsorship from the highest level of engineering leadership and Chief Architects, this team of elite and seasoned engineers have a goal to introduce more nimbleness and independence in the code, enable faster development, and faster startup times. The Productivity team also drives optimizations to the local development environment setup with developer productivity and happiness as a goal. They partner closely with the rest of the engineers in the org and the Engineering Services team to ensure that every developer at Okta thrives while building the world’s best Identity Platform.

Job Duties

  • Work with Engineering leaders,Chief Architects, and other stakeholders on setting the long term vision for Cleavers and Dev Productivity team
  • Partner with team leads and architects to help define what the developer journey looks like at Okta
  • Empower the teams to achieve a high level of technical productivity, reliability, and simplicity
  • Recruit and grow individual team members in their careers and develop new skills
  • Facilitate agile project planning and execution of your teams, and across other teams to ensure prompt delivery
  • Contribute to other cross-cutting engineering initiatives based on business needs


Who you are

  • 7-8 years of experience in enterprise software development
  • 3+ years of experience managing teams
  • Not too distant in the past, you have worked hands-on on developer productivity, code refactoring or similar backend projects
  • Be a player-coach - If needed, you can roll up your sleeves and work on some user stories
  • A passion for supporting modularization of code and developer productivity
  • Successfully recruited and built great teams
  • The ability to thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility
  • Good communication to be able to articulate and champion the work of your teams
