Staff UI Software Engineer (Universal Directory)

The Universal Directory team is a core team in Okta that manages Identities of all of Okta’s capabilities and features. Universal Directory is responsible for building the directory for managing all users, groups, and devices within Okta Cloud. As a Staff UI Engineer in the team, you will be responsible for developing intuitive UI workflows for centralized user and group management by collaborating with Product Managers, Backend Engineers, and UX designers.

At an organization level, you will also have the opportunity to work with the UI Core/Platform team to develop and maintain components used across the entire organization in a way that is accessible, scalable, sustainable, and adheres to Okta’s coding standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop intuitive UI workflows for centralized user and group management by collaborating with Product Managers, Backend Engineers, and UX designers.
  • Collaborate with the UI Core/Platform team to build the common components needed to enable consistent, efficient, scalable UI development across the entire organization.
  • You will also deliver tooling and test infrastructure to enable teams to build testable UIs and ship high-quality and accessible UIs
  • You will work closely with the our design team and feature devs to ensure development and investment is consistent with Okta practices and tooling, as well as working to influence UI development at Okta, sharing our knowledge back to the team, particularly with React
  • You will create and document reusable patterns, documentation, reference implementations, and hands-on training with developers
  • You will mentor other UI developers in the team and coach them on UI development best practices

Required Skills

  • 8+ years experience with one of the major JavaScript MVC frameworks (Backbone, React, etc.), along with a deep understanding of the JavaScript language.
  • 2 years experience with TypeScript
  • Experience shipping user interfaces for production-grade applications in an agile, product oriented environment
  • Strong experience with cross browser compatibility and optimization techniques
  • Strong understanding of debugging scalable, high performance web applications built with reusability and componentization in mind
  • Understanding of web security attacks and prevention
  • Prior experience with consuming and/or designing REST APIs

Nice to Haves

  • Backend experience using Node.js
  • Knowledge of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies: OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, Federation, SSO, etc.

Education and Training

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, or relevant industry experience
