Senior Corporate Counsel

The Senior Corporate Counsel, APJ will play a key role in growing Okta’s presence in APJ by working closely with local Sales, Professional Services and Partner organizations in structuring and closing outbound commercial agreements and supporting strategic, go-to-market efforts focused on expanding Okta’s footprint across the Asia region. We are looking for a strong transactional Attorney with local operating experience, business acumen, and has a passion for technology and closing sales deals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Okta’s APJ based sales teams (focused in Asia) to negotiate, draft and finalize Master Subscription Agreements, Data Processing Addendums, Professional Services Agreements, Statements of Work, Nondisclosure Agreements, indirect/channel related agreements and other types of commercial agreements as needed in the APJ region.
  • Partner with local deals desk and sales operations to support an end-to-end contract close process.
  • Provide strategic support and counsel to finance, revenue operations, sales operations, product teams, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure agreements are consistent with internal corporate policies.
  • Effectively build critical relationships with internal clients, legal colleagues and key business stakeholders by providing sound legal counsel and strategic advice to assist in new market entry, go-to-market efforts across the Asia region.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to sales and other internal business constituents in supporting our customer base to ensure continued customer success and satisfaction, while serving as a steward of Okta’s interest.
  • Support continuous improvement of Okta’s form contract templates, legal policies and processes related to commercial transactions.
  • Handle a variety of ad-hoc projects across the department supporting business, legal, and strategic corporate initiatives in the APJ region.
  • Champion Okta’s core values, and lead with a team first approach in serving as a cultural ambassador in the APJ region.

Minimum REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 8+ years of relevant commercial transaction experience successfully negotiating and closing complex enterprise SaaS subscription agreements, technology licenses, data privacy terms and professional services agreements including accompanying statements of work.
  • Strong knowledge of local data privacy/information security regulations (e.g. PDPA, PIPA, APPI) and regulated industry requirements (e.g. MAS, FSC) in key business markets across the APJ regions.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating channel agreements related to distribution, resell, professional services, referral, MSP, and technology partnerships.
  • Able to demonstrate a successful track record supporting go-to-market / new market entry efforts across the Asia region, and significant experience providing legal counsel on local (focused on Asia) commercial and compliance issues.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across multiple departments, including building and maintaining strong relationships with business partners, within a global organization.
  • Excellent communicator, strong negotiator and detail oriented drafting skills.
  • Responsive, accountable, growth mindset, with the ability to organize, prioritize and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Self-starter and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision but maintains a team first approach.
  • Strong academic background, degree in law from highly regarded school and local bar admission.

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Significant experience operating across the Asia region, including India.
  • Previous experience working for a U.S. based technology company.
  • Fluency in a local language.
