Unified Communications Engineer

 Title of Job: Staff Unified Communications Engineer
Role Location: Okta Headquarters (San Francisco, CA)
Reports to: Unified Communications Manager

Position Description: At Okta, we are builders and owners!  The Unified Communications System Engineer will be responsible for system design, implementation, maintenance, and innovation for unified communications and workplace technologies.  This is a senior level position on our team and we are looking for someone who can bring their experience, expertise, and help us deliver an amazing UC employee experience.  Okta’s video and teleconferencing are powered by Zoom and Ring Central phone systems.  The resource is expected to understand how Zoom interacts with the other technologies in conference rooms as well as how to troubleshoot systemic issues affecting Okta.  This includes understanding networking, MDM management, A/V technologies and best practices.  This role will also be involved in the live event space system engineering and maintenance and some live event support.  Lastly, we are enabling dynamic work for our employees and our workplace, and this resource will be a key member of the technology team, ensuring that our employees can be productive whenever and wherever they work. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Zoom video conference room system design and engineering, including specialty rooms and collaborative/event spaces.  Also responsible for design and engineering of conference room and desk booking, digital signage, and video wall systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues globally with Zoom, Teem, Ring Central, JAMF, Envoy, digital signage, and other UC technologies.  Serve as tier 2 support to UC technicians and vendors.
  • Work closely with UC Manager and project managers on planning and implementation of new systems.
  • Manage system/hardware life-cycle, updates/refreshes, and schedule preventative maintenance.
  • Document systems and processes, including diagraming.  Cross train other UC team members and participate in end user training sessions when necessary.
  • Live event support during external and internal company meetings.
  • Automate processes and tasks for workplace technologies, and help scale support globally.
  • Help us innovate on the Okta employee technology experience, evaluating new technologies that empower dynamic work, solutioning and design, and innovating scalable technology solutions that support our employees’ productivity.

Minimum REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong engineering experience with Zoom and other video conferencing systems, including design, hardware/software evaluations, monitoring, builds, troubleshooting, and networking.
  • 8+ years of total AV/UC experience, including 4+ years supporting video conferencing, 4+ years supporting live events, 1+ year providing general IT support in a corporate environment.
  • Experience with AV control systems, Audio DSPs (ClearOne, Biamp, Polycom), and Video Switchers (Crestron, Extron).
  • General understanding of acoustic engineering and sound control.
  • Experience with MDM solutions for mobile and desktop operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking technologies (WiFi, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPN)
  • Scripting/development experience would be a plus, along with data analytics experience.
  • Sense of humor, technical curiosity, strong sense of ownership, and passionate about delivering an amazing employee technology experience.
