Director of Database Marketing


The  Director of Database Marketing will own, build and lead demand generation from the Okta prospect and customer database. Leading a new team on a key company priority, this role will acquire, manage and strategize around high quality, integrated prospect and customer data. Lead the stewardship and governance of customer data to ensure optimal performance, usage and quality for sales and marketing partners.


  • Own Marketo and Salesforce Data for Marketing Campaigns and SDR enablement
  • Provide long-term planning and implement soup-to-nuts the Okta database marketing strategy in partnership with campaign, field, partner, web and product marketing, as well as the SDR organization
  • Partner with Marketing Operations and Business Systems to define marketing needs for our data and data architecture, make the databases more usable and performative for the business and develop processes ongoing management/governance of prospect and customer data
  • Work with central architecture team to establish data usage and data definition parameters, and develop a process and roles and responsibilities for ongoing management/governance of data
  • Lead our efforts at segmentation, personalization and regionalization to ensure the right message
  • Accountable for health and quality of prospect, customer and partner data, including data hygiene, appends, enrichment and contact permissions as well as quality assessment processes, measures and reporting.
  • Recommend new tools and deliver processes to grow of the funnel through smart use of our data, automation and new technologies
  • Guide  global marketing and SDR practices to ensure data privacy compliance
  • Improve performance and scale , per contact and per account, of people-based marketing programs
  • Own GDPR compliance across our marketing campaigns, in partnership with Marketing Operations, Security, IT and Legal
  • Oversee small team of marketers and contractors with potential for growth


  • • 7+  experience in customer database management, CRM, database and loyalty marketing, marketing operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Salesforce.com and marketing automation platforms (Marketo a plus), data analytics  and warehousing tools like Google Analytics and Tableau, SQL, Redshift, or similar
  • Experience building and managing complex B2B databases at scale, and implementing personas, and segmentation, and managing data and working with data schemas.
  • Comfortable working cross functionally with web and product marketing, sales and product teams
  • Experience marketing a SaaS or B2C trial, freemium or subscription channel a bonus
  • Strong experience with vendor management and cross functional project management.
  • Experience with B2B sales cycles and demonstrating marketing's impact on the business with data
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills are required as well as verbal presentation and written communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for challenges and strong work ethic
