International Communications Manager, Japan

Okta is hiring a manager of international communications to join the global communications team in Japan. This is an opportunity to lead the Japanese PR program, including media relations, corporate communications, thought leadership, executive communications, and regional internal communications. 

This is a high-profile role, with the opportunity to shape Okta’s Japanese PR communications and marketing strategy.

You will report into Okta’s corporate communications and content team in San Francisco, and work hand-in-hand with Okta’s Asia Pacific senior executives and regional leaders. You will own internal regional communications, including regional all hands meetings and keynotes. You’ll manage our Japanese PR agencies, and will function as part of our Asia Pacific regional communications hub to raise awareness about Okta. You will also work directly with the media to garner interest in our corporate, thought leadership, product and partner stories. 

The Okta communications team ensures that everyone knows, loves and shares the Okta story. We work around the world to influence the internal and external conversation about Okta, technology, identity, and security, and we engage with press, analysts, the public, customers, partners and employees. 

The ideal candidate loves enterprise/security technology, and has a solid track record of working across borders and time zones to deliver strong results.

Responsibilities (what you’ll be doing)

  • Align with corporate and global strategy to drive awareness of Okta’s corporate, executive, product and platform stories
  • Build and execute thought leadership in alignment with US team
  • Educate users, press, bloggers, analysts and influencers about Okta, its products and initiatives
  • Manage executive communications opportunities including keynotes, media briefings, speaking engagements, and customer and partner activities
  • Localize external positioning and messaging, as well as provide strategic counsel around the right communications approaches to take in Japan and across the Asia Pacific region;
  • Work with local and regional stakeholders to develop regional narratives and thought leadership platforms to raise awareness of Okta;
  • Drive alignment and consensus across cross-functional teams within the organization in Japan and across the Asia Pacific region, including demand generation, business development, partner marketing, and customer marketing;
  • Develop, edit, and manage the translation of content, including press releases, customer stories, blog posts, and other communications;
  • Work closely with customers to highlight key regional customer success stories
  • Set and attain Japan PR goals, managing Japan PR reporting
  • Develop bylines, press commentary and keynotes in partnership with executives and the US PR team

Required skills/experience (what you’ve accomplished)

  • Experience in enterprise technology public relations is a must;
  • Experience working with global businesses and partner networks is a must;
  • Experience with identity and access management products is strongly preferred;
  • 8+ years of experience in public relations, agency and corporate in-house mix preferred;
  • Proven experience managing Japanese PR agencies and collaborating with/reporting to US headquarters
  • Proven ability to partner with Japanese business leaders on high business impact, key initiatives, and strategies
  • Ability to engage with senior executives and leadership teams with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies and/or security
  • Excellent writing and editing capabilities
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly identify trending topics and issues with a defined point of view
  • A focus on details and the ability to manage multiple, high-profile projects and deliverables
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent required
