Technical Marketing Manager, CIAM

Okta is the market-leading identity platform, but competition abounds. We are looking for a developer who loves identity and wants to spend time digging into a wide variety of Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) technologies to understand how they work, what the developer experience is like and compare it with Okta, helping our product team and sales organization improve and deliver a world class solution.

What is this role all about?

Understanding the competition. Being the leader is a luxury, but we have to stay vigilant about the other players in the space; analyzing the competition is a source of market intelligence.

This role is focused on the CIAM (Customer Identity and Access Management) space, which exposes Identity Services as APIs and SDKs to allow developers to integrate registration, authentication, authorization and other identity features to their applications without worrying about maintaining the code to keep their customer accounts secure.

What will you do?

  • You will be an expert in the technical details of how a typical sign up flow, login, account recovery and other identity activity works in applications. You care about security and care about making the internet a safer place.
  • You will analyze competitive CIAM products, extract insights, and share them internally and externally via presentations and content. You will draw from deep expertise of the product and the CIAM market to clearly articulate, to developers as well as C-level execs, how Okta uniquely addresses customer use cases better than our competitors.
  • You will enable technical audiences across Okta to sell, deploy, support, train upon, or consult. You will create sample code/applications, technical guides, presentation decks and other resources.
  • You will contribute to critical product decision-making by partnering with Product Management. Customer insights will make you invaluable when choosing in which direction the product should head.
  • You will become the go-to expert on key competitors in the customer identity-as-a-service area.

What do you need now?

  • You must have the ability to develop applications in popular languages/frameworks (Java, JavaScript, Node, Python, etc). You can be a master of one, but must also be able to work with others.
  • You must have a basic understanding of how identity works in applications. Such as the login flow, the storage and management of a user profile (username, password) and so on.
  • You should be able to put together basic mobile applications to test sign up and login flow.
  • You must be able to write and speak clearly about technically complex integrations and use cases in a compelling way, without extensive use of jargon or acronyms.
  • You must be able to build your own deliverables and collaborate across cross-functional teams on broad initiatives.
  • You must have some experience creating technical documentation, e.g., deployment guides, configuration guides, technical sales and marketing collateral, blog posts.
  • You must be a skilled researcher and a critical analyst. You will perform in-depth analysis of competitive products and technologies to compare them to Okta, then train the field teams to understand and articulate Okta's differentiated mission, vision and story.

What will you get out of this role?

  • You will work with the very latest in software that protects customer accounts. This is one of the most important areas of application development and you’ll be doing research that will make Okta’s solution better, therefore protecting millions of users on the internet.
  • You’ll get to work with our awesome customers—bold companies who have partnered with Okta to solve some of their most critical challenges.
  • You will work with our top notch security team, this will expose you to some of the most interesting challenges the internet has today and how we address them.
  • You’ll become familiar with the entire product development lifecycle at one of the fastest-growing SaaS companies in the world—from ideation to adoption.
  • You’ll work on a small team with a big impact, in a collaborative company with audacious goals.

Required Skills:

  • 5 years of software development in some form. You must be comfortable with building applications that heavily integrate Restful APIs.
  • 5 years of developer evangelism, technical marketing, product management, pre-sales engineering, field engineering, or customer-facing support experience required
  • Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and concisely with very strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic environment with competing priorities

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization protocols and products.
  • MCP, MCSE, CISSP, CCSP or any other security certification will be a plus
