Senior Product Manager, Federation Platform

Position Description:

We’re looking for a technically strong product leader to drive our Federation Platform. The platform supports common standards like OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML, robust and configurable policies, and APIs to expose the functionality to developers. The team owns the flows that connect external “Identity Providers” to Okta, and the flows that federate user identities into downstream applications. The team also owns Okta’s industry leading API security product, API Access Management. In this role, you’ll be setting the strategic direction for the product as well as working closely with engineering to define, prioritize, build, and deliver a roadmap to drive that vision forward. You’ll own the Federation components that are the underpinnings of how Okta works, including our federation protocols, sign on modes, 3rd party identity provider connections, OAuth implementations, and API Access Management. Success in this role requires you to have a technical background, understanding of what makes a great API platform, good business sense, and an ability to partner closely with our engineering, design, product marketing, and business development teams at Okta.

Experience building federation and authentication solutions for market-leading products or services is desired. If you can combine that with a deep understanding of building an API platform for developers, you’ll fit right in! Success in this role will require both a keen ability to understand customer requirements, define our overall short and long-term strategy, strategically prioritize what’s most important, and work across your PM team and the broader Okta organization to deliver an innovative product.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver products that customers love

  • Work with engineering, the wider PM team, and other internal groups to define and document user stories and use cases to guide product development
  • Define and execute on the roadmap and prioritize features for the Authentication Platform that delight customers and developers
  • Collaborate with product marketing and developer relations to support the creation of messaging and content and enable the Okta sales team

Develop, research, and clearly communicate sound product strategies

  • Understand core business problems and requirements from customers, prospects, sales, and support to inform product decisions in the owned area
  • Closely track industry trends for identity platforms and adapt your strategy accordingly

Drive product innovation through rapid triage of ideas with facts and data

  • Work with the rest of the Okta product leaders to prioritize and deliver the innovation required to advance the strategy and roadmap for the Authentication Platform
  • Measure progress and success by working with the analytics team to define meaningful metrics

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • Experience across the product management lifecycle
  • Strong technical or development background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation and leadership skills
  • 5+ years of experience, 3+ years of product management or related experience
  • Track record of successful delivery of complex projects

Preferred:

  • Experience with authentication and access management protocols and products (SAML, OIDC, OAuth)
  • Experience creating and managing multi-tenant SaaS software products at a market-leading company
  • Advanced degree in technical (MS) or business field (MBA)
