Academy Solutions Engineer - Entry Level

We're running a Pre-Sales Academy for in EMEA this year for those with little to no experience in pre-sales the chance to join and train as a Solutions Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who enjoys being customer facing and who loves learning new technologies. 

Role of Solutions Engineer at Okta:

Solution Engineers help sell technical solutions by bringing together the functions of Sales and Engineering. It is a significant role that leverages communication skills, intuition, investigative skills along with technical knowledge and abilities. 

A Solution Engineer is a key part of the software sales team and a necessary component of any technical sale. Solutions Engineers lead the functional and technical sales process with a coordinated focus on solutions development across Okta’s Identity Management Workforce Solution, Advanced Server Access, and Customer Identity Management solutions through requirements gathering, validation, and demonstration. The Solution Engineer must be a self-motivated storyteller who is able to  relate technology to the value that the customer needs to help solve their pain points.

The Okta Pre-Sales Academy

This program provides a dedicated 6 month “graduate study” level experience while teaching three domains: executive skills, technology experience, and hands-on product development and configuration.  The program is designed to enable and “supercharge” your success in this role.  You will be part of a small team of highly motivated and intelligent individuals who will attend lectures given by subject matter experts, learn/practice the art of sales, and drill down into the technology so that you will “own” the information.    

This is not an internship nor a temporary position, but rather the first step into a full time Solution Engineer role.  Upon completion of the Pre-Sales Academy, you will join a regional pre-sales team, having gained and demonstrated expertise in the following areas:

  • High degree of comfort presenting to audiences speaking about cloud technologies
  • Hands-on experience with the major Okta solutions and exposure to the others
  • Subject matter expertise on standards like SAML, OIDC/OAuth, SCIM and others
  • Have a support system of many people within Okta to call for advice, guidance and help
  • Understanding of the functions of a software company and how software is successfully sold and implemented
  • Knowledge of how to operate effectively within the Okta sales process

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Craft technical content/solutions for customer understanding. For example, you will learn how to implement specific use cases and standard methodologies for customer implementations and then effectively present that information to customers.
  • Distill and effectively communicate complex customer needs and product feedback to Product Management, Engineering, Marketing and Sales.
  • Participate as a member of a highly collaborative team in the execution and delivery of written responses and technical demonstrations for customers.
  • Be the technical “point of contact” for all aspects of the technical sales process.

Requirements: 

  • An understanding of basic computing concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience in going above and beyond, challenging yourself
  • Passion for technology and solving technology challenges
  • Strong communication skills
  • Team player with strong collaboration skills
  • Growth mindset and willingness to learn

Nice to have:

  • Degree in relevant STEM subject such as Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics etc.
  • Exposure to coding such as Javascript, Python, .Net, and Java or a strong desire to dig in and learn.
