The Essential Eight is a set of foundational security controls recommended by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) as top priorities for preventing and responding to the compromise of networked Microsoft Windows devices. While the eight recommended controls were borne of ASD's experience responding to compromise of Microsoft Active Directory networks, seven of the eight are broadly applicable to any operating system.
