Today’s organizations are feeling the pressure of evolving cyber threats alongside the push to keep pace with AI-driven innovation.

At Oktane 2025, Brett Winterford, Vice President of Okta Threat Intelligence, and Shiv Ramji, President of Auth0, joined Enterprise Security Weekly’s Adrian Sanabria to discuss the security challenges organizations are facing and how AI is changing app development.

For security, AI has changed the pace of threat detection and response. “The speed at which we have to operate is changing in a big way,” Winterford said, noting that phishing sites today are often only live for under an hour.

Credential theft is still the order of the day for attackers, and it’s working, he continues. “For us, it’s about understanding the attack patterns of the adversaries so that we can advise our customers, and then also thinking about, from a product perspective, the different ways in which the use of a credential can be constrained because it’s super important that we think about the lifecycle of a token,” he said. Leaders can’t simply “stop caring about security after authentication.”

Just as security researchers express concern about AI's growing role in phishing attacks and other malicious behavior, app developers are dealing with AI’s impact on their processes. What and how they build is changing, Ramji said. Developers must now bring AI into their products and make them AI-ready.

“I think you will see more and more effort put up front,” he said. “More into planning, defining guardrails, what success looks like, because [with AI] the coding part actually is easy and fast. That will be the shortest amount of time you are going to spend.”
