What is Okta Integration Builder?
Okta Integration Builder is a low-code tool, now Generally Available to all Okta Workflows customers, that allows IT and identity teams to create custom provisioning, entitlement, and Universal Logout integrations for non-SCIM applications. It expands on the original Workflows Connector Builder by allowing Okta services to invoke custom API actions directly, without requiring custom engineering or vendor support.
IT teams manage dozens of SaaS applications, many of which have proprietary APIs that don't follow standard protocols such as the System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM). Teams either build custom integrations from scratch, accept gaps in automation, or wait months for vendor support. None of which scale.
Okta launched Workflows Connector Builder in 2023 to address this gap, and customers have built hundreds of connectors to fill critical automation needs. But as the demand for deeper integrations has grown, we've heard a consistent request: Teams need a builder that is easy to use within the rest of the Okta ecosystem.
Introducing Integration Builder
Today, we’re announcing Integration Builder, which is now Generally Available to all Okta Workflows customers. It's the next evolution of Connector Builder in Workflows, and your existing Workflow connectors move over with a single click. Instead of just building custom connectors, you can now build API Integration Actions, which are provisioning and entitlement integrations for apps that don't speak SCIM, as well as Universal Logout integrations that respond to security events in real time.
When we think about what an integration should do, the bar has changed. It’s no longer enough to extend Workflows with custom connectors. Today, users need custom integrations for many apps that are not in the Okta catalog.
Integration Builder is built for that bar. It’s a low-code builder that lets you map any vendor API and use it like an out-of-the-box Okta integration, without being locked into specific protocols or waiting on vendor support.
How does Integration Builder improve automated identity workflows?
The Okta Integration Network includes thousands of out-of-the-box integrations. For specialized platforms unique to your business, Integration Builder provides the flexibility to extend Okta without custom engineering. You can map any API in a workflow and use it like a regular Okta app. Your team stays focused on identity strategy, not connector plumbing.
Integration Builder key features and capabilities
- Build connectors faster with OpenAPI spec import: In addition to creating Workflows connectors from scratch, you can now generate one directly from an OpenAPI spec. It creates basic flows quickly, with support for more complex flows coming soon.
- Build custom Okta integrations, not just connectors: You can now create provisioning, entitlements, and Universal Logout integrations that Okta services invoke directly.
- Organize work with Integration Projects: Group related connectors and API Integration Actions into a single project folder so they can share common flows and authentication methods, rather than rebuilding the same flows each time.
- Map any API without being boxed into protocols: With API Integration Actions, you can map the vendor’s API and use it like a typical Okta app.
