Vijay Rao

Former Chief People and Places Officer

Vijay Rao served as Chief People and Places Officer at Okta, overseeing both global HR and Workplace teams responsible for organizational culture, talent strategy, and employee experience. During his tenure, he led the transformation of the company values, built a high performance culture, and scaled systems and processes supporting Okta’s growth from 2,000 to over 6,000 employees.

Vijay has over 25 years of experience in strategic HR leadership across start-ups and Fortune 500 companies. Prior to Okta, Vijay drove the strategy and execution of Meta’s Global People Operations function, which expanded from two employees to over 500 during the growth of the overall workforce from 3,000 to 85,000. Vijay also spent time at Microsoft as a technical product manager leading a 5-year global recruiting system and process transformation.

Vijay is a strengths-based leader and coach leveraging a unique blend of strategic leadership, people and business partnering, and technical skills to drive success. He holds a B.A. in History with a minor in Legal Studies from Brandeis University and an HR certificate from Bentley College.
