What is the Okta Integration Wizard?

The Okta Integration Wizard (OIW) is a no-code, guided builder inside the Okta Admin Console that enables IT teams to build, deploy, and manage custom application integrations. It unifies single sign-on (SSO) and automated user lifecycle provisioning into a single application profile without requiring custom developer code.

The challenge with building custom app integrations

Every enterprise relies on critical applications that fall outside standard commercial catalogs, from homegrown internal HR portals to bespoke vendor applications with customer-accessible APIs that lack out-of-the-box System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) support. Historically, securing and managing these applications presented several operational bottlenecks:

  • High custom development costs: Securing custom apps to work seamlessly with the Okta Platform required writing developer code from scratch or patching together brittle custom connectors that were time-consuming to build and prone to breaking during routine API updates.
  • Fragmented app management: Previously, when admins wanted to implement both single sign-on (SSO) and automated user provisioning for a custom app, they had to rely on a fragmented workflow. SSO and automated user lifecycle management had to be configured as two separate entities. To manage one custom app, IT had to set up and maintain two app instances in Okta: one for user sign-in and another to create, update, and deactivate user accounts automatically.
  • Redundant partner workflows: For organizations working with system integrators or managed service providers, building custom connections historically carried hidden costs. Because custom connectors built within your Okta environment were locked to your specific tenant, partners had to rebuild those connections from scratch for each engagement, adding extra time, labor, and costs to your project timeline.

OIW eliminates these extra steps by letting you configure SSO and automated user lifecycle management within a single, unified app profile, while providing the foundation to seamlessly layer in advanced identity governance, fine-grained access entitlements, and security controls whenever your organization is ready to expand its security posture.

OIW streamlines this by enabling partners to deploy standardized, reusable architectures directly into your environment.

Streamline custom integration builds with guided workflows

The Okta Integration Wizard (OIW) brings a free, guided integration builder directly into the Okta Admin Console, enabling IT teams to easily deploy enterprise-ready custom integrations.

Okta offers the Okta Integration Wizard as a capability included in customer-paid Okta orgs. OIW gives your team access to the same production-grade platform Okta provides to commercial software vendors, allowing you to build, manage, and scale private application integrations with confidence.

Beyond simplifying initial setup, OIW also fixes long-standing architectural headaches. Instead of juggling disconnected workarounds and hand-coded API scripts, OIW empowers your team to consolidate application security into a single, standardized framework that provides:

  • Unified access and provisioning: Configure SSO and user lifecycle automation (provisioning, deprovisioning, and updates) inside a single, unified Okta application profile, eliminating duplicate app entries and disjointed workflows.
  • Advanced governance and security: Layer on fine-grained access governance entitlements and universal logout protection as your security posture expands.
  • No-code API extensibility: Connect bespoke APIs using no-code integration actions, enabling IT teams to build custom provisioning logic without writing developer code or escalating to engineering teams.
  • Repeatable architectures: Partners can deploy standardized, reusable architectures directly into your environment, reducing operational costs and streamlining projects.

With this approach, your custom integrations function as first-class Okta integrations equipped with built-in version management and comprehensive audit logging. Capabilities unlock automatically based on your active product licenses, giving you a clear path to expand your identity controls over time. After they’re created, all private applications sit cleanly in your private catalog listing, making ongoing maintenance and updates straightforward.

Drive operational efficiency across IT and partners

Bringing complex API integrations into guided administrative workflows provides clear operational advantages across identity roles:

Enterprise IT teams

  • No-code provisioning logic: Enables administrators to build and maintain custom integrations using standard platform controls rather than custom software development.
  • Simplified configuration: Guided configuration steps allow teams to standardize build requirements and delegate integration setup to broader staff or external contractors using standard Jira specifications.

Global system integrators (GSIs) and managed service providers (MSPs)

  • Repeatable deployments: Allows partners to deploy maintainable, supported private app architectures directly within customer environments. Partners gain a repeatable operational model for configuring, deploying, and managing custom application integrations across their client portfolios, without having to start from scratch each time.
  • Lower overhead: Eliminate handoff friction, reduce long-term maintenance overhead, and free up customer IT teams to focus on strategic security initiatives.
