At Okta, we celebrate a variety of perspectives and experiences. We are not looking for someone who checks every single box - we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences.

Join our team! We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.

Okta’s Business Technology organization is redefining how internal systems drive agility, intelligence, and scale. At the center of this transformation is the Business Technology Shared Services group — building foundational platforms and capabilities that power secure, efficient, and human-centered experiences for Okta’s workforce and customers.

We’re creating enterprise-grade GenAI and automation services that simplify operations, boost productivity, and shape how Okta works from the inside out. If you’re energized by the intersection of AI, systems engineering, and platform strategy — you’ll find purpose here.

The Opportunity

As an Architect, you will set the technical vision for AI and automation platforms across Okta’s enterprise systems. You’ll architect and drive the implementation of secure, scalable, and responsible GenAI solutions that power virtual agents, workflow automation, intelligent recommendations, and beyond.

This role is designed for an engineering leader who combines deep technical expertise with strategic foresight — someone who can lead large-scale initiatives, influence architectural direction across domains, and inspire high standards across the engineering organization. You’ll work closely with senior leaders in engineering, IT, data, and security, ensuring our internal AI capabilities meet the same standards of reliability, security, and scale as our customer-facing products.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and guide the evolution of Okta’s internal AI and automation platform — including foundational GenAI services, data pipelines, agent frameworks, and operational tooling.
  • Define strategic direction for how AI/ML is adopted across enterprise workflows, balancing innovation with risk, governance, and user experience.
  • Partner with leadership across engineering, data, product, and security to align platform investments with company priorities.
  • Lead technical execution on complex, cross-functional initiatives — including prototyping, code development, and design reviews.
  • Establish engineering excellence standards for scalable AI systems, including observability, testing, CI/CD, and responsible model use.
  • Mentor and influence engineers, architects, and staff-level ICs — helping grow technical capability and judgment across the org.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies in GenAI and automation, making informed recommendations for adoption, experimentation, or standardization.

What You’ll Bring

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including significant time at the Staff+, Architect, or Principal level.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and scale distributed systems in cloud environments (preferably AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Proven experience deploying AI/ML or GenAI systems at enterprise scale, including vector search, LLM orchestration, prompt engineering, and RAG pipelines.
  • Fluency in modern programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go, along with hands-on experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Deep expertise in architecture strategy, system design, and setting technical direction in complex organizations.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and the ability to communicate trade-offs and decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A track record of mentorship, influence, and thought leadership in engineering communities.

Why Join Okta

  • Work Where Identity Meets Innovation: Help define how AI and automation enhance secure access and productivity at scale.
  • Lead with Impact: Influence the future of Okta’s internal technology platforms while working alongside some of the best minds in enterprise software.
  • Human-First Culture: Join a team that values humility, excellence, and genuine care for one another and the work we do.
