Get to know Okta
Okta is The World’s Identity Company. We free everyone to safely use any technology—anywhere, on any device or app. Our Workforce and Customer Identity Clouds enable secure yet flexible access, authentication, and automation that transforms how people move through the digital world, putting Identity at the heart of business security and growth.
At Okta, we celebrate a variety of perspectives and experiences. We are not looking for someone who checks every single box - we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences.
Join our team! We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.
The Product
Okta’s Auth0 is an easy-to-implement authentication and authorization platform designed by developers for developers. We make access to applications safe, secure, and seamless for the more than 100 million daily logins around the world. Our modern approach to identity enables this Tier-Ø global service to deliver convenience, privacy, and security so customers can focus on innovation.
The Team
The Organizations team is expanding Auth0 to help B2B SaaS applications easily manage access for their own customers and partners, at scale. We make it possible for enterprise SaaS users to log in with the right set of permissions within the right context, and for our B2B customers to onboard access for their customers easily. Our work is cross-cutting and always heavily customer driven.
We work in NodeJS (JavaScript and TypeScript) and use PostgreSQL for our data needs. Our services run on AWS and Azure and we lean heavily on containers for both our development and production needs.
If you have keen eye for good user experiences and enjoy solving hard problems at scale we can’t wait to talk to you.
What you’ll be doing
- Help drive architectural vision and strategy on the team to design and deliver powerful new enterprise functionality for our SaaS customers - both for the login flow itself and for Auth0’s direct and self-service management capabilities
- Identify and implement strategic technical improvements to our codebase and architecture. Orchestrate and lead major technical projects, across teams as necessary.
- Mentor and coach less experienced engineers on sound engineering practices and technical leadership. Serve as a subject matter expert on all building scalable, reliable and maintainable distributed systems.
- Work with your team, the Product Manager and Product Designer to define the look, feel and functionality of new features and review customer feedback
What you’ll bring to the role
- You bring solid architectural and security knowledge, backed by experience in designing, implementing and evolving complex distributed systems.
- You have worked on projects that required close collaboration with external teams, and have experience making those a success.
- You are a good mentor and communicator, and bring the rest of your team along for the journey. You can explain complex concepts simply in person or in a document. You know that while an engineer can write code, teams collaborate to ship successful products.
- You have solid previous experience with Node.js (JavaScript or Typescript) to build scalable backend services and creating and maintaining public and internal APIs.
- You have built frontend and full-stack apps and know what approach to use when. You know how to build SPAs, have good understanding of React and know your way around CSS.
- You have a good understanding of SQL databases and know how to debug and optimise table and query structure for performance under load.
- You have experience with Docker and cloud environments (AWS and Azure preferred) - bonus points for experience with Kubernetes.
- You have proven experience operating services at scale with appropriate observability tools and mechanisms.
And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!
- Knowledge of authentication protocols such as OAuth2, OIDC, SAML.
- Understanding of event-driven architectures, especially Apache Kafka.
- Understanding and experience of DevOps culture. We have infrastructure teams that build interfaces for product teams but we love working with engineers who can reason about the workings under the covers - and roll their sleeves up to write some Terraform, if need be.
- Knowledge of security engineering and application security.
