Varian Medical Systems’ Matt Egan on Why Oktane16 is The Place to Find IT Enlightenment

Oktane16 is just 47 days away and we are buzzing with excitement here! We’re gearing up for three jam-packed days including more than 40 breakout sessions and customer stories, opportunities for hands-on training with the Okta platform, deep dives on current and forthcoming tools and applications, and an impressive lineup of internal and guest keynote speakers.

If you still need convincing that Oktane16 is the place to be August 29-31, then check out what long-time customer Matt Egan, infrastructure architect with Varian Medical Systems, has to say about the conference. We were eager to catch-up with this three-time attendee and Oktane15 presenter to discuss past experiences and learn what he’s most looking forward to this year.

Matt: My name is Matt Egan and I am an infrastructure architect at Varian Medical Systems. My role calls for a heavy focus on identity and access management, so partnering with the right provider is essential to my team’s success. Okta has been a great fit, and we’ve been working together in a variety of functions for over four years.

Okta: Why should someone go to Oktane?

Matt: I am usually a skeptic of trade shows and technology conferences, but this will be my fourth year in a row attending Oktane. The speakers are engaging and there’s a lot of collaboration between Okta experts and fellow customers. If you want to learn about the current and future IT landscape, specifically security and enablement technologies, then Oktane16 is for you.

Okta: What’s your favorite memory from Oktane?

Matt: The most fun memory is when the fire alarm went off in the middle of a session at Oktane14! I’ll spare you the details, but it was entertaining to see what happened, and everyone was safe. But I learned the most from Karl McGuinness when he demystified oAuth - it finally clicked for me in that session.

Okta: Where has Oktane enabled you and your organization to go in the past?

Matt: Many advancements in our Okta investment can be traced back to an idea hatched at Oktane. The conference is a blend of traditional professional development as well as lots of opportunity for collaboration and creativity. Inspiration to develop and drive the next big idea for your organization can strike at a keynote address, a training session, a customer panel or even during conversations at happy hour. Oktane has been the breeding ground for many initiatives and I’m sure it will be the same this year!

Okta: Where do you hope Oktane16 helps you go in the coming year?

Matt: I am currently in the middle of a large scale company spinoff. Beyond the obvious benefit of having Okta at my disposal, I will be looking for all sorts of tips and tricks that will assist in this undertaking.

Okta: Describe Oktane in one word.

Matt: Knowledge.
