Swiss Army knife

Okta integrates everything! That includes Hybrid IT scenarios with your legacy apps, your custom apps, your proprietary apps, as well as your infrastructure. Today, we’re releasing an eBook covering 18 standard-based integration patterns Okta supports to connect identities to your legacy apps and infrastructure. Interested? For more details to support your Hybrid IT strategy, read my breakdown below, or download the eBook.

Okta offers 6000+ pre-built integrations—but what about my custom-made intranet portal?

Okta is the leading identity and access management service that securely connects people to technology. To achieve and maintain our leadership, we focus our resources on our integration catalog, the Okta Integration Network (OIN), which currently includes over  6000 integrations. Customers love the OIN because it allows them to configure deep integrations such as SSO, Account Management, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and API Authorization with Okta—in minutes.

However, some companies have private solutions like legacy apps, custom apps, and proprietary apps (such as their intranet portal) which cannot be listed in the OIN.

To solve this, Okta provides comprehensive Hybrid IT deployments for any of these apps using multiple standards-based integrations. The included standards are SAML, WS-Fed, OpenID Connect, OAuth, Header-Based Authentication, RADIUS, SSH, RDP, LDAP, SCIM, OPP, OATH-TOTP, FIDO, and REST. You can pick which integration works best for your app based on the use-cases listed below:

And today we are pleased to announce the Integration Patterns for Legacy Applications, a comprehensive overview of how you can integrate your apps that remain outside the OIN catalog, with Okta.

Okta Integration Patterns for legacy applications

Here’s a list of some cool patterns you’ll find in the eBook:

  • How Okta delivers MFA to legacy infrastructure: servers, Oracle Database, and network appliances.
  • How Okta synchronizes users and groups with applications using the System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) standard.
  • How Okta manages users in legacy applications that don't support SCIM.
  • How Okta supports on-premises apps, hosted on application servers such as Weblogic, Websphere, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss.
  • How Okta supports apps that leverage the header-based authentication behind HTTP servers such as Apache and NGINX, and load balancers such as Big-IP F5, Akamai, and Citrix.

In the upcoming months, I'll publish new, use-case based posts covering these integration patterns. In the meantime, download the eBook for the latest, and check out how we provide Hybrid IT the world's largest enterprises!
