Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Get to know Okta

Okta is The World’s Identity Company. We free everyone to safely use any technology, anywhere, on any device or app. Our flexible and neutral products, Okta Platform and Auth0 Platform, provide secure access, authentication, and automation, placing identity at the core of business security and growth.

At Okta, we celebrate a variety of perspectives and experiences. We are not looking for someone who checks every single box - we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences.

Join our team! We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.

The Auth0 platform secures more than 100 million logins each day for customers all around the world - and we're growing fast! The Platform Control team enables Auth0 engineers to move faster by giving them tools to easily deploy and manage their services on AWS and Azure. This is a role with a huge impact. You will get to work with engineers throughout the organization and what you build will be a foundational piece of the infrastructure that allows Auth0 to scale for years to come.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer who is passionate about building robust orchestration systems, idempotent APIs, and high-quality developer tooling. Because we build the "brain" of the platform - handling everything from environment provisioning to emergency rollbacks, the ideal candidate is someone who is obsessed with system state consistency and creating a seamless, self-service experience for other engineers.

You will:

  • Design and develop the Control Server, API, and CLI that manage the lifecycle of our thousands of environments, from initial creation and provisioning to decommissioning.
  • Build the logic that powers automated rollbacks, hotfixes, and release patching, ensuring that deployments are safe, predictable, and reversible.
  • Develop and maintain automated provisioners that allow product teams to responsibly utilize and spin up high-fidelity test environments without manual intervention.
  • Implement Event Publishing for platform entities, ensuring that changes to the environment state are broadcasted reliably to downstream systems.
  • Owning the interface. You will ensure the platform CLI and API are intuitive, well-documented, and provide clear feedback to engineers during complex operations.
  • Collaborate with Product, Platform, Security, and Quality Engineering teams to translate complex business requirements into automated lifecycle workflows. You will establish technical standards for API and CLI design, ensuring that security policies and quality gates are integrated seamlessly into the deployment and release processes
  • Participate in the team's goalie rotation when production incidents require build support.

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Have 5+ years of software development experience, specifically building APIs, CLI tools, or backend orchestration logic.
  • Are proficient in Golang (our core language for control plane services).
  • Have a deep understanding of distributed systems patterns, specifically idempotency, state machines, and eventual consistency.
  • Have demonstrable expertise managing cloud resources (AWS/Azure) via code, specifically for automated provisioning.
  • Have experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) or OIDC/OAuth2 flows, as you will be responsible for the primary entry point into our platform.
  • Prioritize developer experience - you understand that a bad CLI error message or a friction-filled auth flow can cost an engineer hours of productivity.
  • Bring a Tier-1 Service mindset: you write code that handles edge cases, network partitions, and partial failures gracefully.
  • Tend to deliver work incrementally to get feedback and iterate over solutions.
  • Have a relentless passion for ownership, accountability, and diving into complexity to deliver highly reliable and performant systems.

Extra Points:

  • Significant experience with PostgreSQL for managing complex, relational entity state.
  • Experience building custom Kubernetes controllers or extending Terraform providers.
  • Familiarity with gRPC for high-performance internal service communication.
