Staff Software Engineer, Platform Infrastructure - Build Services

The Auth0 platform secures more than 100 million logins each day for customers all around the world - and we're growing fast! The Platform Infrastructure teams enable Auth0 engineers to move faster by giving them tools to easily build, deploy and manage their services on AWS and Azure. This is a role with a huge impact. You will get to work with engineers throughout the organization and what you build will be a foundational piece of the infrastructure that allows Auth0 to scale for years to come.

The Platform Build Services team is responsible for designing and developing the entire Continuous Integration (CI) system. Our primary output is the set of modular, standardized build stages and services that define how all code is tested, packaged, and secured. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and own the technical strategy for modular Unified Build Stages and Services, solving the hardest scaling and architectural challenges to accelerate developer workflows across the organization.

You will:

  • Own the technical direction and system architecture for major components of the CI and Artifact Management platform. Translate ambiguous, long-term business goals into concrete, multi-quarter engineering projects and designs.
  • Proactively investigate and resolve deep-seated system issues. Coach and mentor peers on advanced systems, debugging complex distributed failures, and demonstrating the proactive self-unblocking required to succeed in our highly complex system.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for the team. Take ownership of the most challenging build performance and scaling bottlenecks (e.g., dependency resolution speed, Monorepo segmentation) and deliver robust, highly performant solutions.
  • Design and lead the implementation of complex, reusable Unified Build Stages and Services for critical functions, including security scanning, automated testing orchestration, and standardized packaging/versioning.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with Product, Platform, Security, and Quality Engineering teams. You will drive consensus and establish technical standards to ensure complex requirements are integrated seamlessly into the modular stages.
  • Own the architecture and scaling strategy for the centralized containers, libraries, and tooling components registry, ensuring secure artifact sourcing, cross-environment promotion, and compliance with lifecycle policies.
  • Be accountable for the operational health of the entire CI system, including high availability, scaling optimizations of the Build Infrastructure (build agents, source control integration, etc.).
  • Drive cost optimization efforts across both the build compute systems and the artifact management storage to ensure efficiency at scale.
  • Partner with Security Engineering to integrate robust security scanning, vulnerability remediation, and guardrail integrations into both the CI process and artifact handling.
  • Discover, advocate for, and champion the adoption of new technologies and approaches to enhance the build and artifact platforms.
  • Drive technical excellence by establishing engineering best practices, leading architectural reviews, and designing the extensibility mechanisms (plugins, custom runners) for the CI platform.
  • Participate in the team's on-call rotation when production incidents require build support.

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Have 8+ years of experience, with a significant track record in platform or infrastructure roles focused on large-scale CI/Build System architecture and Artifact/Package Management Platforms.
  • Possess a deep, practical expertise in CI system architecture with a proven ability to design and scale modular build stages, build agent provisioning, and centralized artifact registry solutions.
  • Have strong technical proficiency in Golang (or similar systems language) for tooling development.
  • Have advanced knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) at scale.
  • Have a deep understanding of Kubernetes and containerization principles relevant to build execution.
  • Tend to deliver work incrementally to get feedback and iterate over solutions.
  • Have a relentless passion for ownership, accountability, and diving into complexity to deliver highly reliable and performant systems.
