Okta Welcomes Stormpath to Accelerate Identity for Developers

San Francisco, CA — March 6, 2017 — Today, Okta, the leading independent provider of identity for the enterprise welcomed Stormpath, a provider of identity management for applications and APIs. The Stormpath team, including co-founders Alex Salazar and Les Hazlewood, will join Okta to further accelerate the growth of its identity platform for developers. Additionally, Okta has acquired a license to the Stormpath technology.

The need for a unified identity across every app, service and device is exploding as every company transforms their business with digital services. Companies want to build, secure, and scale their critical infrastructure faster, while reducing costs and maintenance so that they can get to market and innovate more quickly.

"Our vision for the Okta Identity Cloud is to become the authentication layer for every app, service, device and person, giving developers an easier and more secure way to manage user access to whatever they are building,” said Okta’s CEO, Todd McKinnon. “The Stormpath team brings great technical talent and a deep understanding of developer needs, both of which are necessary to provide a world-class developer experience. I look forward to working with Alex and his team here at Okta to solve some of our customers' most pressing problems."

Founded in 2011, Stormpath developed one of the industry’s first identity management APIs for software teams building web, mobile and API-driven applications. From its work with developer organizations across a number of different industries, the Stormpath team brings an understanding of how to support developers building secure customer-facing web and mobile applications and APIs.

“Okta and Stormpath share a similar culture and desire to help our customers transform their businesses faster with a secure, reliable and easy-to-use identity platform. Our team is excited to join Okta and accelerate efforts to help developers and IT teams better manage identity across any applications or service as they scale,” said Alex Salazar.

“Datastax, Okta and Stormpath are all focused on helping organizations build and deploy mission-critical cloud applications for today’s user- and customer-centric world,” said Arlen Thurber, senior systems software engineer, DataStax. “That’s why we partnered with Okta to provide our employees with secure access to cloud applications, and Stormpath for user authentication to download our products.”
