Resilience redefined: Strengthening identity availability in EMEA and Australia

You can now strengthen business continuity across more regions. Enhanced Disaster Recovery is Generally Available for Okta environments in Ireland, Frankfurt, and Sydney, bringing faster failover and greater resiliency to customers in Europe, the EU, EMEA, and Australia. This builds on last year’s rollout to North America and is part of our continued investment in helping you stay up and running, no matter what.

All Okta customers benefit from built-in Standard Disaster Recovery with a one-hour Recovery Time Objective (RTO) across two regions. And now, with Enhanced Disaster Recovery, you can unlock even faster recovery and improved service continuity in more locations, backed by Okta’s track record of reliability and resilience.

With Enhanced Disaster Recovery, customers get the following benefits:

  • Reduce the failover time from one hour to under five minutes — a failover is initiated the moment Okta determines Disaster Recovery will effectively address a regional service outage
  • Continue authentication and maintain read-only access to organization configurations, ensuring business continuity of service and identity security
  • Customers can request specific production organization(s) to failover to Disaster Recovery

Later this year, Enhanced Disaster Recovery customers will gain the ability to initiate failover and failback between their primary and disaster recovery regions directly. This gives customers full control over their failover process, whether in response to a real service disruption or for routine business continuity testing.

Data residency update for Australia

As part of this launch, all data for customers deployed in our Australia cell will now reside within Australian borders. Okta’s Sydney cell relocated its Disaster Recovery region from Singapore to Melbourne on April 1st, 2025. Australian Public Sector customers will find this significant, as it enables Okta to meet the Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) data residency requirements. More information on Okta’s IRAP certification is available here. The Singapore site will be decommissioned in early June. Customers do not need to take any action.
