Tanner Nicol is on Okta's Engineering Security Team as a Staff Engineer, where he enhances the company's security posture with crypto library improvements, DDOS protection, Interservice AuthZ, FIPS compliance, and Secrets management. He has over ten years of experience designing security tools for Aerospace, Hardware Security, and SaaS. Prior to Okta, Tanner started his career at Boeing building detection and response tools, then joined a small hardware security startup, Helm, to bring a private and secure personal email server to market.
Tanner is a Seattle native who earned a BS in Informatics from the University of Washington and an MS in Computer Science from Seattle University. Outside of work, he is preoccupied with raising a young daughter, renovating an old house, and overhauling his garden compulsively.
