Okta CEO and Co-Founder Todd McKinnon appeared on CNBC to discuss the company's strong Q2 FY26 earnings, which saw the company beat expectations and raise its full-year guidance. The results underscore Okta’s continued momentum and growing consumer preference for its unified identity platform.

In the interview, McKinnon noted that initial macro concerns in the federal vertical proved unwarranted, with the public sector delivering a very strong quarter and accounting for half of the top deals. He attributed this success to the sector's need to modernize its outdated identity infrastructure, for which Okta provides a comprehensive, one-stop solution.

Echoing sentiments from a recent LinkedIn post, McKinnon highlighted Okta’s double-digit growth, with total revenue up 13% and subscription revenue up 12% year over year. This growth is being driven by the accelerated adoption of new products, including Okta Identity Governance, Identity Threat Protection with Okta AI, and Auth0 for AI Agents.

McKinnon also addressed the evolving security landscape, particularly the impact of AI. He explained that AI agents, which need to log in and have their own identities, create a new set of security challenges. To address this, Okta is focused on helping customers consolidate disparate identity technologies and is introducing innovations like Cross App Access, an open protocol designed to secure how AI agents interact across systems. This positions the company to provide the identity security fabric organizations will need to stay secure in the AI era.
