At Okta, we celebrate a variety of perspectives and experiences. We are not looking for someone who checks every single box - we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences.

Join our team! We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.

Are you ready to join a team that's building the future of security? Okta's Workforce Identity Cloud is more than just a product—it's a critical layer of defense for businesses worldwide. Our Infrastructure Security team is at the forefront of this mission, and we're looking for a passionate and experienced Staff Site Reliability Engineer to help us protect our cloud infrastructure from the ground up.

In a world where digital identity is the new perimeter, we are the builders and guardians. We don't just react to threats; we anticipate them. We take a creative, innovative approach to solving complex security challenges, blending deep security expertise with engineering excellence to harden our infrastructure without sacrificing performance or usability.

This is a high-impact, high-stakes role in a rapidly growing, security-first organization. As a liaison between our Security and Engineering teams, you'll be a key driver of technical strategy, influencing our security roadmap and ensuring our systems are robust, scalable, and secure.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and secure critical infrastructure: You'll be a hands-on engineer, crafting the systems that power Okta's services, with a laser focus on security at scale.

  • Be a security evangelist: You won't just follow best practices—you'll lead the charge, guiding the team to strengthen our security posture through continuous innovation and proactive initiatives.

  • Fight for reliability: Respond to production incidents, get to the root of the problem, and build automated solutions to ensure they never happen again.

  • Automate everything: Identify and eliminate manual tasks, constantly evolving our monitoring tools and platforms to promote a culture of operational excellence.

  • Promote engineering best practices: Share your knowledge and expertise to help the entire engineering organization build more scalable and reliable services.

  • Support a 24x7 online environment: Play a crucial role in our on-call rotation, ensuring our services are always available and secure.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • A "see a problem, fix a problem" attitude: You're a self-starter who is always willing to go the extra mile to get the job done.

  • A passion for mentorship: You're a technical leader who inspires and elevates your peers.

  • Deep cloud security expertise: You have experience automating, securing, and running large-scale containerized services in environments like AWS (EC2, ECS, KMS, Kinesis, RDS) and GCP (GKE, GCE).

  • A solid technical foundation: You have deep knowledge of CI/CD principles, Linux fundamentals, OS hardening, networking, and IP protocols.

  • Configuration management mastery: You are an expert with tools like Chef and Terraform.

  • Expert-level coding skills: You're proficient in operational tooling languages such as Ruby, Python, Go, and shell scripting.

  • Security tooling know-how: You have experience with industry-standard security tools like Nessus, Qualys, OSQuery, and Splunk.

  • Cryptography and secrets management: You're familiar with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and modern secrets management practices.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualities:

  • 6+ years of experience architecting and running complex AWS or other cloud networking infrastructure resources
  • 6+ years of experience with Chef and Terraform
  • Unflappable troubleshooting skills
  • Proven experience in collaborating across teams to deliver complex horizontal projects
  • Strong Linux understanding and experience.
  • Strong security background and knowledge.
  • BS In computer science (or equivalent experience).
