Okta Opens Seattle Office to Scale Operations, Accelerate Efforts Around Microsoft Office 365

San Francisco, CA - March 19, 2015Okta today announced the opening of its newest office in Seattle, WA. The expansion highlights the company’s focus on scaling its identity and mobility management service, and in doing so, increasing its efforts around Microsoft Office 365.

“Microsoft has dramatically accelerated the market for cloud and mobile in the enterprise. Tons of organizations are choosing Office 365, and in doing so, looking to solve identity and mobility management challenges inherent in getting the most out of that investment,” said Todd McKinnon, CEO of Okta. “We're committed to becoming the solution of choice for all Office 365 deployments, an objective that will be further realized with the opening of our new Seattle office. This is a big step in accelerating widespread, meaningful adoption of cloud and mobile globally in FY2016.”

Okta’s expansion comes on the heels of another massive year of growth and momentum for the company. Highlights in FY2015 include:

Widespread Adoption: Okta welcomed hundreds of new organizations to its service in FY2015, including RE/MAX, Seventy Seven Energy, TGI Fridays, Zenefits and Zulily. The company also added Krista Anderson as chief customer officer, a direct reflection of Okta's ongoing commitment to customer success as its service spans more locations, customer segments, industries and use cases.

Significant Adoption Across Verticals: The company has seen significant uptake in energy, non-profit and higher education categories. New customers in FY2015 include OneGas, UNICEF, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, California State University, Long Beach and National University.

Entry Into Enterprise Mobility Management: Okta entered the Enterprise Mobility Market in November with Okta Mobility Management. Dozens of existing customers, including Del Monte Foods and Twilio, as well as new customers Acadia Pharmaceuticals, Rovi Corporation and Tintri, are already live and realizing the benefits of the offering.

Okta for Developers: Okta also unveiled in November its Developer Edition, a fully productized version of the company’s proven APIs that gives app developers, enterprise developers and ISVs an easy way to build identity components directly into web or mobile applications. Developer Edition allows developers to build more secure cloud applications and accelerate adoption of those services within enterprises. Customers include Adobe Systems, Advent Software, Informatica, Rotary International and ServiceSource.

400+ Employees Worldwide: Okta nearly doubled headcount in FY2015, now with hundreds of employees worldwide. Key hires in 2014 include Angela Grady, vice president of operations, Graham Pearson, regional vice president for Asia Pacific, and Jonathan Runyan, general counsel.

A Leader in the First-Ever IDaaS Magic Quadrant and UK Cloud Award Winner: Gartner published its first Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) Magic Quadrant in June and positioned Okta in the Leaders quadrant. Okta also recently was named the “Security Product of the Year” in the UK Cloud Awards, beating out dozens of other vendors in the annual program that celebrates the leading cloud suppliers, technologies and projects in the UK.

$155 Million in Funding: Okta secured its Series E round of funding for $75 million in June. This round included contributions from existing investors Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Greylock Partners and Khosla Ventures, as well as new investors Janus Capital Group and Altimeter Capital. As part of this round, Pat Grady, partner at Sequoia Capital, was added to the Okta board of directors.

Oktane14: Okta’s second annual user conference drew 1,000+ attendees to explore challenges, opportunities and strategies associated with empowering and securing the cloud-centric and mobile enterprise. The event featured dozens of customer presentations, and keynote presentations by Nate Silver, Marc Andreessen, Pat Grady, Aaron Levie, and Adobe CIO Gerri Martin-Flickinger.
