A Reflection on Our Identity in 2017

While there has been a wave of change both inside and outside of technology over the past 12 months, I’m continually proud of this team for staying true to our identity. Our identity is who we are, what we believe in, and it’s core to our business (in case you missed it, here’s why we think it’s important). Our identity guides how we treat our employees, our customers, our partners, and our community. Across product innovation, our growing team, and additional partnerships built this year, we’ve remained committed to making you, our customers, successful above all else.

Going public in April was of course a major company milestone for us, which we undoubtedly could not have done without the support of our entire Okta ecosystem. We’re so grateful that you helped bring Okta to where it is today and support us as we continue to deliver a world-class experience.

While our IPO was an important milestone, there were a number of additional highlights throughout the year:

  • We joined forces with Stormpath to enhance our enterprise API products. Stormpath enables Okta to provide a top-of-the-line developer platform and experience.

  • We launched new products like making basic two-factor authentication standard for every Okta user, delivered enhancements to Okta Universal Directory, expanded APIs, introduced a new Developer Edition, announced integrations with companies like Palo Alto Networks and initiated Okta for Startups

  • We introduced the Okta for Good Fund and partnered with NetHope as we continue to support technological innovation and support underserved groups.

  • We joined thousands of you in Las Vegas for Oktane17, where we collaborated with IT leaders and developers from 5 continents, 17 countries, 42 states and 328 cities. We hosted 49 customer speakers, gave away 121 free passes to non-profits, welcomed 174 Women in Tech breakfast attendees and saved over 1,200 bottles of water.

  • We were honored as a leader in both the debut of Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Access Management, World 2017 and the Forrester Wave: Identity-As-A-Service, Q4 2017.

  • We built our new Businesses at Work dashboard to tell everyone which applications are most popular and fastest-growing in our network.

  • We signed the lease for a new, 207,000 square-foot corporate headquarters located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, which we will move into in 2018. We also opened new offices in influential cities like San Jose and Toronto.

  • We unveiled our “Identities” series that highlights the diversity of personalities, background, and hobbies of technology leaders around the world.

Despite all that we’ve been busy with this year, we’ve managed to have fun along the way. I encourage you to check out our full 2017 Year in Review.

As we head into 2018, we want to say thank you. Thank you for your belief in us. We’re ready to face the challenges that lie ahead and can’t wait to conquer them with you in the new year.
