GL Staff Accountant, Compensation Accounting
Okta is searching for a top tier Staff Accountant to join our growing Compensation Accounting.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-motivated team player who enjoys working in a
challenging and fast-paced environment. This individual should have a solid working knowledge
of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal controls as well as an interest in complex
accounting topics (such as stock-based compensation, business combinations, etc.). The role
will report to the GL Supervisor and focus on the accounting for stock-based compensation
under ASC 718 and other equity related transactions/accounts. Additionally, this role will be
responsible for supporting the overall month-end close process, SOX compliance control
execution, and quarterly/annual audit process, as well as identifying and driving project-based
work to provide process efficiencies for the team. This role will be required to work in US
(Pacific Time) hours during the month end close and/or as required.
What you’ll be doing
● Perform various GL month-end close activities, including preparation and review of
journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations related to stock-based compensation
expense and other equity related transactions and accounts
● Partner with the Stock Administration team to confirm employee equity awards and
related inputs and transactions are properly captured in our stock administration tool
(E*TRADE Equity Edge Online) to ensure stock-based compensation expense is
calculated correctly
● Prepare balance sheet and P&L fluctuation analyses
● Assist in preparing internal and external financial reporting schedules including, but not
limited to, equity footnotes and disclosures for our 10-Q and 10-K filings with the SEC
● Evaluate system infrastructure, along with identifying and implementing process
improvement opportunities
● Maintain and enhance the internal controls over accounting processes and systems and
ensure SOX policy compliance
● Assist in implementing new accounting policies and procedures and assessing the
accounting implications of new transactions or scenarios
● Provide a high level of customer service with finance and non-finance business partners
by providing financial insights and relevant reporting
● Support the quarterly reviews and annual audit requests and inquiries from our external
auditors
What you’ll bring to the role
● Bachelor’s degree, with emphasis in Accounting, Finance or Business
● 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
● Solid working knowledge and application of US GAAP, SEC regulations, and
SOX/internal controls
● Excellent problem solving, analytical, and organization skills
● High level of attention to detail is a must
● Ability to identify, follow-up, and resolve discrepancies timely

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
● Ability to adhere to deadlines in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing accuracy
● Proficient with Google Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) and Microsoft tools (Excel,
Word, PowerPoint)
● Strong systems knowledge, including the ability to quickly learn new systems
● Familiarity with the operations and related accounting for stock-based compensation
● Experience with NetSuite and/or other major ERPs (i.e., Oracle, SAP) preferred
● Experience using E*TRADE Equity Edge Online or other comparable stock plan
administration system is a plus
