We are in search of a Manager, GL Accounting to join our team and help lead/manage the GL Accounting for Commissions and Bonus activities.  The ideal candidate is a detailed-oriented, self-motivated team player, with a solid working knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal controls, as well as experience with the related operational accounting execution.  This role will be responsible for liaising with the related Finance Shared Services team, to support the month-end close process, partner with the Commission Operations team, SOX compliance control execution and quarterly / annual audit process, evolve reporting and metrics, as well as identifying and driving project-based work to enable scale  for the business.  Additionally, this individual thrives on process improvement and enjoys working in a challenging, fast-paced environment.  This role will have 3 direct reports under them and will be reporting to the Senior Manager, Compensation Accounting. This is a hybrid position, with onsite at Okta’s SF HQ 1-3 days a week.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform various GL month-end close activities, including ownership and review of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations such as Deferred Commissions and Bonus accruals, and possibly support other compensation areas (i.e. Payroll, Stock Based Compensation, etc.)
  • Understand commissions, SPIFFs, and other bonus plans to ensure accruals are accounting for proper under US GAAP
  • Review and explain Balance Sheet and P&L fluctuation analyses
  • Assist in preparing internal and external financial reporting schedules
  • Evaluate process and system infrastructure, along with identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities
  • Maintain and enhance the internal controls over accounting processes and systems
  • Assist in implementing new accounting policies and procedures
  • Provide analysis on financial results (i.e. trends, performance metrics, benchmarks) to key stakeholders
  • Establish and evolve reporting and metrics to provide effective monitoring of results and valuable insights to our business partners and executive leadership
  • Maintain strong and productive relationships with various cross-functional business partners, including Commission Operations, Finance, Sales Incentive Design, HR Compensation, Tax, Legal, Finance Transformation, IT, Payroll and Technical Accounting among other internal stakeholders
  • Provide a high level of customer service with finance and non-finance business partners by providing financial insights and relevant reporting
  • Support the quarterly reviews and annual audit requests and inquiries from our external auditors
  • Prepare month-end closing journal entries, including resolving discrepancies and ensuring entries are in accordance with US GAAP
  • Ensure SOX and policy complianceReview and optimize current processes and procedures through continued integration of systems, enhanced automation and digitization of records
  • Perform special projects or other duties as requested
  • Ad hoc corporate level projects and requests, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with emphasis in Accounting, Finance or Business and CPA strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years of management experience
  • Strong background in US GAAP, SEC regulations, SOX controls, and business processes
  • Familiarity with the operations and related accounting for Bonus, and Commissions; Payroll  and/or Stock Based Compensation experience a plus
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and organization skills
  • A team player, motivated to work cross-functionally in a role that requires fostering strong relationships with multiple business partners
  • Ability to partner, collaborate and influence across functional areas
  • Ability to work in a dynamic setting while maintaining accuracy and delivering against deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced analytical and modeling skills with the ability to interpret and analyze data
  • Understanding of SaaS business model
  • Experience with Enterprise ERP systems (i.e. NetSuite, Oracle, SAP) and Sales Commissions tools (i.e. Xactly Incent, Anaplan)
  • Experience using ADP, Workday or other comparable payroll software a plus
  • Proficient with Google Workspace (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) and Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$120,000$180,000 USD The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $134,000$202,000 USD
