Get to know Okta
Okta is The World’s Identity Company. We free everyone to safely use any technology—anywhere, on any device or app. Our Workforce and Customer Identity Clouds enable secure yet flexible access, authentication, and automation that transforms how people move through the digital world, putting Identity at the heart of business security and growth.
At Okta, we celebrate a variety of perspectives and experiences. We are not looking for someone who checks every single box - we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences.
Join our team! We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.
This role is ideal for someone who loves helping people and teams grow—and who enjoys solving complex, meaningful problems (like scaling secure authentication for AI models or designing novel authorization frameworks for GenAI applications). If you're deeply technical and passionate about both AI and security, we want to hear from you.
Auth0 Emerging Tech is the engineering organization behind some of the hottest technologies out there. We ship fast—without breaking things. Our team is dynamic, collaborative, distributed, and diverse. We value ownership, continuous learning, and innovation.
We've recently launched our Auth for GenAI offering and are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for Identity Protocols.
At Auth0, we primarily work with Node.js (JavaScript or TypeScript), with a touch of Go, and databases like MongoDB or PostgreSQL.
If you're excited about building and empowering autonomous, talented, and resilient teams, we’d love to talk to you.
What will you do:
- Manage the distributed team responsible for Auth0’s AI Authentication investment, consisting of amazing, talented, and driven engineers.
- Be hands-on with our solutions, sometimes by coding, sometimes by reviewing or participating in architectural decisions.
- Be ultimately responsible for the technical implementation and the resiliency of our Auth for GenAI solutions.
- Hire top talent during phases of expansion.
- Coach and help team members grow.
- Contribute to improving Auth0's product architecture patterns, security controls, and best practices.
- Participate in the assessment and adaptation of engineering processes and best practices.
- Work closely with the team’s stakeholders to prioritize work.
- Provide context to ensure team members can perform specific tasks effectively.
- Manage people activities such as coaching, 1:1s, and performance reviews.
Qualifications and Requirements
You are a good fit for this role if you:
- Have 3+ years of engineering management experience.
- Have experience using AI Agents to better understand the problem space we operate in.
- Have experience leading highly technical teams and are skilled at coaching teammates throughout all phases of their careers.
- Know when to let the team solve problems independently while also having the context and skills to provide hands-on assistance when needed.
- Are able to focus teams on achieving their goals effectively.
- Have a technical background and can assist the team in evaluating trade-offs during development.
- Enjoy working in an iterative development environment.
- Work well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver high-value results.
- Lead by example and are an excellent communicator.
- Have experience with and a passion for good engineering practices and testing.
- Excel in working autonomously and know when to seek support from your team members.
- Take a systematic approach to problem-solving, with strong communication skills, a sense of ownership, and drive.
- Have designed applications and systems that scale, are resilient to failure, and are observable.
- Have experience and understanding of architectural principles across infrastructure platforms, security, data, integration, and application layers.
Bonus points for:
- A deep understanding of IAM (Identity and Access Management) concepts.
- Experience with Node.js and the AWS stack.
- Experience building highly reliable, scalable systems.
We do not expect you to be an expert in all of the above, only that you can learn the less familiar fast!
